Debra Tate-Sears writes that she is very interested in finding photographs of the mining operations on Lot 16 Concession 9 Loughborough Township Frontenac County.
The discovery of lead ore was made in 1860 by Chris Roushorn, and by 1868 operations were fully developed (I believe it was Ontario's first lead mine). Extraction was intermittent after the turn of the century, and the buildings were demolished in the early 1960s.
The discovery of this vein of lead ore was very important to the settlement of this area (although limited at the best of times), and I am hoping to find archival photographs of the mine site while it was still in operation.
Anyone with any information should leave a comment on this website or contact Debra directly.
Thanks from all of us!
